So you’ve signed the deal for your vehicle? Fantastic. But do you think the journey is over? Yes, you have your 2007 used Ford Mustang, and it’s clean and slick — but there’s more to do. Be ready to spend some money.

Insurance, Insurance, Insurance

Auto insurance is probably the very first thing you will get after you buy the car. It’s required by law and it protects you in a multitude of ways–liable, collision, even theft.

Consider your options when it comes to insurance, because rates differ between companies.

Pamper Your New Car

That simply means get a full-on diagnostic. This is especially true for used cars. The fact is a dealer will probably not tell you that there’s a crack in one of the pipes or a small leak in the fuel tank. In fact, it’s possible that the dealer may not even know about it.

So when we say “pamper,” we mean “make sure your car really is in good condition.” Because the truth is you never know….

The Monthly Payments Matter

Consider a pay day one loan if you run into problems making your monthly installment payments. Guess what: you’re not done buying the car!

Watch your budget carefully. If you slip once you could lose the car to repossession. Also remember that the faster you pay off the car the less interest you’ll pay!

Because It’s Your Baby

And you must take care of it. Think of it as diapers, formula, and baby toys. It’s your car!

It is estimated that over a thousand automobile accidents happen in the United States every day. While most accidents are tiny fender-benders that cause little to no damage, some can be catastrophic and result in car damage and/or injuries. Small accidents can be easy to overcome, but it’s the catastrophic ones the can cause extensive financial and emotional problems.

If you have recently been involved in a catastrophic car accident, here’s a look at some ways you can gain some relief from the financial and emotional problems that stem from the accident.

Personal Injury Lawsuit

A personal injury lawsuit can help you gain relief from the financial burden that can come with having medical or car repair bills. Lawsuits of this nature will usually seek compensation from the party that was at fault in the accident. The lawsuit will ask for the guilty party to cover all medical and legal expenses as well as any personal damages such as time off from work, pain and suffering, and car repair bills.

To make sure a personal injury lawsuit is properly filed, it is best to consult with an attorney like a Florida injury attorney.

Community and Non-Profit Support

There are many resources available throughout your community that can help you get some relief from your accident. Available community resources can range from free legal advice, help with medical bills or other expenses, and free or discounted counseling sessions to help you overcome any trauma from the accident.

Whether you pursue a lawsuit or seek help from your surrounding community, relief from a recent auto accident is right around the corner, just waiting for you to take advantage of it.

Most of us ride in or drive a car every day. There are very few days when we’re not in a car at least once during the day. The more we’re in a car, the higher the chances are that we’ll get in an accident. Chicago is a highly populated area and because of the congestion found there, it’s very common for car accidents to happen. So what happens if we’re in an accident?

Whether you get in an accident because of your own fault or because of someone else’s, it’s important to have a lawyer who can advise you on what you should do. A Chicago accident attorney, a lawyer that specializes in car accidents, is your best bet because he or she will know the laws surrounding car accidents inside and out and will be able to give you the best advice possible.

You’ll also want to be in close contact with your car insurance agency. If the accident wasn’t your fault, it will be in the best interest of your agency to prove this so the agency doesn’t have to pay for the damages to your car, or any other cars or property. If you get into an accident, there are procedures you can follow to ensure that they have the evidence needed to do this. The first thing to do is call the police. Then take pictures of the scene of the accident (camera phones, especially those that take high resolution pictures, are great for this), getting statements and contact information from any witnesses, and writing down what you remember.

Being in a car accident—any accident big or small—is scary and upsetting. After you’ve made sure everyone involved is safe and contacted the authorities, take a few deep breaths to clear you head before calling your insurance company.

It’s in your own best interest to cooperate with your insurance company and it’s the law in most states that you contact your insurance carrier within a few days of any accident. When you call to report an accident, keep to the facts, if there are damages to your car, if you are seeking medical treatment and when you will be available to answer questions at a later date.

Since all insurance companies are different, be sure to consult your policy for “conditions” or “duties after loss” to find out exactly what you are required to provide. You can be prepared by printing out an accident checklist and keeping it in your glove compartment just in case.

Most insurance companies will contact you within a couple of days after you report the accident and request additional information that may include:

When and where the accident took place

How the accident happened (just factual details)

What vehicles were involved and how each was damaged (let them know if you took pictures of the damage)

Contact information for all those involved in the accident and anyone who was injured

Names and contact information for any witnesses

The name and department of the responding police officer

Your insurer may ask you for a sworn statement about the accident and may also want information about any medical expenses and an appraisal of car repair bills.

If you don’t already have an attorney, you can search on the Internet using a term like “car accident lawyer Chicago” to find information about locating a reputable accident lawyer.

Accidents in your car are bad news at any time. Even the smallest accidents are a major inconvenience with the car being away for repairs and your having to arrange alternative transport for the daily routines like getting to work and picking up the groceries.

Having an auto accident attorney makes a lot of sense and there are three reasons for having one. They are:

They take care of the paperwork. Not all accidents are caused by someone at fault on the road, there are times when the problem is a vehicle fault (perhaps the auto shop failing to put a wheel back on properly or even the automaker’s fault). When this happens, an attorney is the one to turn to for help getting what’s rightfully yours.

They deal with the insurance companies when needed. This could include finding the other party when they’re at fault and defending your claim when there might be some doubt.

If major injury occurs, your attorney is there to protect your interests, even if you were walking down the street and were hit by a vehicle!

Cars are a way of life and accidents happen every day, but being ready for the situation means you face it without losing your life savings. If you are in the area, perhaps a personal injury attorney san jose can help.

Every day accidents happen, you don’t have to be in a car to be involved in a car accident, you could be crossing the street, or walking the dog, but with the right planning you will be ready both physically and financially. It pays in the long run.

When gas prices rise, most drivers feel helpless. We all need gas to keep our cars running—it’s not one of those things we can’t exactly choose to go without this week. But what if we could have a say in how much money we wanted to save at the pump?

Instead of dreaming of an electric car, let’s be realistic:

Gas prices tend to go up a few cents on the weekends. To maximize the pennies you can save, only buy gas on Wednesday or Thursday. Stay away from gas stations found along major highways since these will be more expensive. Also avoid stations that are so far out of the way that their cost goes up due to a longer delivery. Check sites or use phone apps that allow you to find the cheapest gas in your area. If it’s out of your way, ask yourself if you’ll really be saving by burning the extra gas to get there.

Lose weight. Maybe not the weight you’ve put on, although losing that may help, but the extra weight you’re carrying around in the trunk means your car is burning more fuel. You should also limit your driving and plan errands accordingly.

Turn off your engine while you’re sitting in the drive-thru. It’s a myth that your car burns more gas upon restarting than if you simply turned it off.

Keep your car maintained. A healthy car will run more efficiently and offer better mileage.

Remember to fill your tank up completely instead of wasting trips to the station for mini-fills. The money you save will start to add up sooner than you think.

The type of auto insurance you need will be determined by your age, your vehicle, your driving record, and your state’s requirements. Insuring your vehicle is required by law, but you have a choice when it comes to insurance.

The best way to find the right insurance for you is to ask around. Anyone who has a good insurance agent will happily let you in on their secret. If you’re new in town, ask the neighbors, your landlord or real estate agent, or even the cashier at the grocery store.

Always obtain free quotes. You can do this online or by calling around. If you’d like, contact an insurance broker to find the best policy for you and your family.

Let your insurance agent determine how much coverage you need. No one else is more versed in the state’s requirements. You can ask what additional options are available but not required and make a decision based on your budget.

When comparing insurance quotes, consider the company’s reputation, payment policy, mailing fees, and discounts. The cheapest rate may end up being more costly if you get into an accident.

Don’t forget to cancel your old coverage. Ideally you would have contacted your previous insurance company to inquire about any early cancellation fees. These are generally not required if your old insurance company is not licensed in your new state. Keep your old proof of insurance with you at all times until you receive your new proof of insurance or a temporary card.

Buying a car is an exciting event. There’s the new car smell, the feel of a new steering wheel beneath your fingers, and a better quality sound system serenading you on the lot. It’s all so surreal until you sign your name under the total amount.

It’s no secret that new cars lose substantial value as soon as they’re driven off the lot. This means you’re losing thousands of dollars in the first two minutes of enjoying your new vehicle. Is it even worth it?

Used auto dealers may not extend 0% financing, but even a modest interest rate on a used car will be a better deal than a brand new one at 0% interest. We’re talking thousands of dollars in savings.

Many buyers want the new car for the warranty, but pre-owned vehicles come with warranties too. Many of them still have tens of thousands of miles left on their warranties, so don’t count them out just yet!

If you’re buying from an individual without a warranty, inspect the car and test drive it before forking over the cash. It’s also a good idea to ask for the car’s service records and whether or not it was involved in any accidents. Get the vehicle’s VIN number and look up its history report.

Visit government and bank auctions. Many of these vehicles are in excellent condition—they were simply repossessed for the lack of the owner’s ability to pay.

Always keep your budget in mind when buying a new vehicle and consider all options. A pre-owned vehicle is new to you, and sometimes that’s all that matters.
